In my area, on Comcast, you can get an HD STB without an HDTV if you
want and then just downscale it to 480i and/or use the RF output to
watch HD stuff on your standard TV. But it will cost you $7 more a
month. And you'll be immediately disappointed by the crappy
recompression they do to your local channels and the fact that 80% of
the other "HD" channels are just upconverting and *STRETCHING* SD 4:3
content so it fills a 16:9 screen. I've actually corresponded with a
couple of those networks asking them to quit stretching stuff, as
every HDTV made has that capability built in, and then the user can
decide if they want people's shoulders to be abnormally wide or not.
Pet peeve.

Why can't they understand that we want to watch what we want when we
want for no money a month in perfect realer-than-if-I-was-on-the-set
HD spectacularvision?
