Precisely because there is a big difference.

720p24 is excellent for films. 1080p60 (if you can handle it) or 1080i60
(if you can't) is much better for sports.

I don't remember if 1080p24 is in the spec or not; it would obviously be
even better for new films, though older ones might well suffer from the
extra resolution.
