As am I. Actually, the biggest improvement has come from sporting
events being produced in HD from the camera and then downgraded to SD
before or by DirecTV and then finally to composite video at my
satellite receiver. The high quality from the field onward is a huge
improvement for all resolutions over what was available some years ago.

So, as far as I'm concerned, the biggest improvement was the networks
committing to upgrading their production facilities and delivering a
higher quality picture. That's clearly obvious even on my 15 year old
Zenith TV.
