Yes, I was seeing that too through xine. It leads me to believe that
somehow the file itself has "something" that causes the mythtv
internal player to choke, while xine and, in your case, mplayer seem
to be able to handle. Is that "something" a corrupt audio stream?
Bad timing data? Or is it some feature that MythTV pays attention to,
but mplayer and xine just ignore? I would love to know.

Well, since I've tried 3 different computers; with different hardware
and different distributions, the common thread in those situations is
the recording itself. So that's what leads me to believe that the
problem lies within the recording. I've also tried replicating the my
recordings directory locally, so I know it's not a network issue.
However, in all cases, the HD recording(s) were made from the same PC
with the same firewire card/settings.

Since you don't have firewire cards, obviously that's the not problem
for you. But what I am investigating is whether my capture method is
not capturing the stream correctly; or corrupting it... hopefully it's
not a case where my upstream Cable television provider is outputting a
stream that MythTV can't use. I don't know much about DVB systems,
but could that also be what's happening to you?
