If you are going to run lines from your existing backend, don't forget  
you also need a way to control it, so you need an ir receiver as well  
as audio/video/network cables from your backend to your frontend. An  
RF receiver/remote might work if your backend isn't that far from your  
TV.

You're probably better off with an AppleTV for your new frontend.  
$229+ some time installing linux on it and you're done.
