Yep, that's exactly what I did. In my case, the incoming cable went into 
a splitter within 6 ft of entering the house, so I just unplugged it 
from the splitter, put the ground tap in between with a short coax cable 
that the installer left behind (but I also have RG6 and a crimper), and 
ran a ground wire to a nearby electrical box. Worked perfectly.
