What he's saying is that if your system has the room, it will keep  
them. If it doesn't have the room, it will expire the oldest LiveTV  
recordings before anything else. If it's trying to record LiveTV and  
has expired all the old LiveTV recordings it could, *then* it would  
start expiring regular programs (that are set to auto-expire) to make  
room for the LiveTV it's trying to record.
