Oh, it seems that the changeset ( 
http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/changeset/17424?format=diff&new=17424 ) 
applies well to -fixes, too.  I had patched my MythWeb and used it to 
set channels as commfree, so that's why I didn't realize it's still 
broken in -fixes.  (Patching MythWeb requires no recompiling or 
anything, too, so it works even if you're using packages.)
