I've been using mythtv for quite a while, a lot better than any windows
PVR programs
Currently I have an Athlon XP backend with two PVR-x50s and an HD-PVR
from 3 Starchoice DSR-505s
It runs fedora 9 and mythtv trunk for HD-PVR support
It uses a DIY serial port IR Blaster to control the satellite receivers
when set to 480i output, my receivers output anamorphic video from the
s-video, so I made a script that runs after my channel change script to
change the aspect ratio of the IVTV recordings.
I have a 2x500GB and 4x300GB raid on a highpoint card.
For my frontend, I just upgraded it to a Core2 Duo E8500 to play HD-PVR
files
My tv is a Samsung DLP rear projection at 1080p over a DVI to HDMI cable
The video card is an nvidia 8600, the audio is sent to my home theatre
receiver via the spdif output onboard sound card.
This all upgraded from a Pentium 200 and a single PVR-250 way back in
0.13 (IIRC, its been a while)
