I just tried this setting out after deciding to give the network issue a break. If I plug into the switch I no longer get any errors on the interface. 

Since I still get the slight stutter though - I checked XvMCConfig and it was set to libXvMC.so.1 like you saw. So I changed it to be libXvMCNVIDIA_dynamic.so.1 which exists on my system but when I try to run HD content it bombs out with the following error :

AFD Error : Could not open codec 0x880bf00, id(MPEG2VIDEO_XVMC) type (Video) aborting. reason -1 

And then it seg faults.
