Well it turns out it wasn't the eSATA/USB switch that was the problem
since I woke up this morning to a frozen drive.
I used xfs so I checked and the fragmentation level is 99.38%!!! Guess
that might be the cause of some problems.

My drive /dev/sdb1 is mounted at /media/disk so what do I need to run
to defrag, xfs_fsr /media/disk?
