I've been running an HD-PVR since the middle of August and I love it.
On my Core2Duo Fedora 9 system, I had to get the faad2, faad2-devel,
faad2-libs from livna repository or else I couldn't get AAC decoding
working.

I also use these options on my configure script
./configure --prefix=/usr --libdir-name=lib64 --enable-proc-opt
--enable-libfaad --enable-opengl-video --enable-opengl-vsync

notice the faad - D for decoding.
faac is for ENcoding - ie: ripping audio CDs to play on an ipod
