I am using a DG45FC as a primary front end for a 65" HDTV. And I would
agree, that it is not without issues, and is not for the faint hearted,
it does work. I can play back recordings, and they look great. I
cannot play back video with mplayer. Xine gives mixed results,
sometimes good, sometimes not so good.

Setting it up is a bear, and the X11 video driver has several bugs that
will not be fixed for some time (well, they are fixed in the driver, but
the driver requires a GEM enabled kernel, not expected until at least
2.6.28 at the earliest.) Attempting to play back video files with
mplayer, and sometimes with xine, causes X to crash and require a reboot.

However, at this point, the main frontend, and DVD playback is very
good, and accomplishes what I needed for my frontend.

I am looking forward to 6-9 months out when the stability is much better
and more things work out of the box.

Anthony
