I was afraid this might happen with a new version! Can you confirm that
you followed the steps mentioned exactly and if so were there any error
messages after any step?
Now I have to say that in no way am I an expert on any of this, but from
your /var/log/message it seems to mention a problem with setserial.
"lirc_serial: use 'setserial /dev/ttySX uart none" have you checked
that that line in autoserial.conf is correct?
Just to emphasise, retrace your steps to make sure you haven't missed a
step, made a typo. Failing that, hopefully someone on the list who knows
what they are doing can help.
Seems you've have a right battle on hands with this.
