One more bit of info: I found a thread on the pcHDTV forums that
suggested running modprobe -v, and I get a fatal error when I run it,
and it corresponds to the dmesg info I listed earlier. Here's what I get:
hdevine at hdevine-desktop:/etc/modprobe.d$ sudo modprobe -v cx88-alsa
insmod /lib/modules/2.6.24-21-generic/ubuntu/media/cx88/cx88-alsa.ko
index=-2
FATAL: Error inserting cx88_alsa
(/lib/modules/2.6.24-21-generic/ubuntu/media/cx88/cx88-alsa.ko): Unknown
symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
That las "(see dmesg)" part is points to that dmesg output I listed above.
Thanks!
Harry
