Most USB to serial devices have poor or non-existent handling of the 
serial hardware handshake lines the are used for LIRC control. They 
are designed for pushing Tx/Rx serial bits and not bit-banging the 
handshake lines.

LIRC using the serial handshake lines requires precise timing control 
and the ability to bit-banging them.
