Channel numbers are basically for your own use.  They provide a means
for you to tell MythTV what channel you want to watch in LiveTV.  They
have no effect whatsoever on recordings.  The only requirement is that
each channel number must be unique for each channel broadcasting
different content (throughout the entire Myth system--i.e. even across
multiple video sources).

(They are also used, in conjunction with callsign, to hide duplicate
channels in the guide.  Any channel having the same callsign and the
same channel number will only be shown once in the guide.)

So, change away...
