[mythtv-users] Running XBMC with native MythTV support

Hello,
    I am hoping that someone may be able to help me with a problem with
XBMC and MythTV 0.21. I had XBMC (SVN 23/03/2008) working with Myth
0.20, but machine problems prompted an update to Ubuntu 8.04 and Myth 0.21.

    I have added my Myth machine as a video source as described in
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Xbox_Frontend#Running_XBMC_with_native_MythTV_Support
and can successfully navigate the MythTV database of recorded programs.
When I select a program to watch, XBMC and the XBOX for that matter,
freeze. The log from the XBOX offers...

19:33:33 M: 40259584  NOTICE: DVDPlayer: Opening:
myth://mythtv:passwd@192.168.0.14/recordings/1001_20080416210000.mpg
19:33:33 M: 40259584 WARNING: CDVDMessageQueue::Put MSGQ_NOT_INITIALIZED
19:33:33 M: 39735296  NOTICE: Creating InputStream
19:33:33 M: 39714816 ERROR: DNS lookup for myth failed: 11001
19:33:33 M: 39714816   ERROR: XFILE::CCMythFile::SetupRecording - unable
to connect to file
19:33:33 M: 39714816   ERROR: InputStream: Error opening,
myth://mythtv:passwd@192.168.0.14/recordings/1001_20080416210000.mpg

[my database password has been replaced with 'passwd' in the above text]

So, for whatever reason, it looks like XBMC is trying to look up "myth"
rather than use it as a directive that this is a MythTV backend. To
confuse matters, my MythTV machine is called "myth", but the XBOX and
XBMC do not know this through their respective configuration files.
Since the XBMC installation has not changed, it would seem reasonable
that the 0.21 Myth installation is behaving differently to the 0.20 in
the way that it talks to XBMC, hence my post to this forum.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Regards,
Ian.
