You seem to be using:

/usr/share/mythtv/mytharchive/encoder_profiles/ffmpeg_dvd_pal.xml

Are you trying to make a PAL or an NTSC DVD? I'd have thought Comcast  
was in NTSC land.

Unless you are running an 8088 I'd agree  ffmpeg is taking a tad long.
