Basically there are multiple ways the compositing system can work, the 
Nvidia cards (and drivers) have a way of doing this without needing 
assistance.  Enabling it, as you say, is required for Compiz on Nvidia, 
but won't let XvMC work.  TBH that's all I know.

It'd have guessed the chromakey functions might well require the same 
things Compiz does; which might mean you've walked slap in to an Nvidia 
driver limitation...  but I can't so for certain.
