I would ask "What sort of HD?"

A P4M of the stated speeds else where in this thread should be able to 
do MPEG2 HD quite easily.  However, in a "just freaking do it" test 
(double click a file), a P4-M @ 2.26 Ghz (a Dell XPS Gen 2 for those 
interested, with 169.12 Nvidia drivers) failed to playback a h264 720p 
mkv file, it was fine until a lot of action appeared and then it 
noticeably stuttered.

YMMV and additional tinker time, changing Ubuntu + Envy defaults and 
general panel beating and/or swapping to a lightweight distro may well 
give different results; but using the defaults, it scored a 'no' here.
