[mythtv-users] ntp stratum two time servers

Today I discovered that out of my three linux machines (my everyday
box and my myth frontend and backend machines) only one of them has
been getting the time updated by ntpd over the last three or four
days. My backend wasn't getting updated...I don't have to tell you
how evil that can be. Luckily it hadn't drifted much.

I had the same four ntp statum two servers in ntp.conf on all three
machines...servers I got here:

http://support.ntp.org/bin/view/Servers/StratumTwoTimeServers

Is it common for public stratum two ntp servers to suddenly disallow
more than one connection from the same ip or something? It looks
almost like that may be the case. All but one of my machines (even
after restarting ntpd) showed .INIT. for the servers when querying
using 'ntpq -p'.

I got around it by simply adding:

server 0.pool.ntp.org
server 1.pool.ntp.org
server 2.pool.ntp.org
server 3.pool.ntp.org

...to all of them. Maybe that's what I should have done from the beginning.

Is this a common problem? Some of the servers I was using required
notification, but I had in fact emailed them a long time ago when I
started using them.

Tom
