[mythtv-users] lirc_serial: software carrier v hardware carrier

I dont pretend to know everything about this sort of thing, but would it 
be correct to assume that the majority of USB/SERIAL based (USB RS232 
converter) ir transmitters would use a hardware generated carrier, due 
to the less reliable timing between the hardware and host system?
