Finally got XvMV working on my box - the solution was to get a new card. Got a
EN7200GS plugged it in and ti worked - literally changed nothing. So I guess
the 6100 just does not work with XvMC.

However I was disappointed with the XvMC results - SD & HD playback was jerky
and grainy, expecially with Bob2 turned on. There were quite a few XvMC
buffer errors on the console - I'm sure there are many X twaeks I could set
to improve things but I decided not to bother - the reason?

I finally hooked up my test box to the Panasonic 42" plasma via HDMI and I was
*very* impressed by the output - SD & HD playback was excellent with just the
std profile. Switched between that and the builtin HD tuner and couldn't tell
the difference. CPU usage was around 30%

I was outputting at 1280x768p - I guess the built in filters on the plasma
were doing a far better job that the XvMC filters.

So I can vouch for what people have been saying - XvMC is not really
neccessary with modern CPU's. However I did not test true 1080p playback -
don't have a source for that :)

And a TV with HDMI/DVI/VGA inputs makes life *much* easier.
