is myth using the right mysql password?  (your root mysql pass)  you can
reconfigure your mysql password on the backend by doing

sudo dpkg-reconfigure mysql-server-5.0

and then make sure myth is using the same password by doing

sudo dpkg-reconfigure mythtv-database

your frontends need to use the same password too.
