I do.  If I'm going on a trip I'll download a few shows to my laptop  
to watch on the plane and whatnot.  My recordings are all SDTV so  
they're about 2.2 GB/hour, not too unreasonable.  If I don't want them  
that big I transcode them first.

Also, on some operating systems you can start to play back the file  
before it's finished downloading, sort of a poor man's streaming video.
