[mythtv-users] Final setup questions

My apologies. I meant to give more info in my last email. I am running
Ubuntu Linux 7.10, and I am a North America TV viewer.

I guarantee I haven't yet installed the mstcorefonts. I completely
forgot to do that. Thanks for the tip. I am sure that will fix me up.
Really, I am surprised no guides have mentioned this tidbit of info.
And that reminds me, I have not yet installed the mpeg codecs and css
for Ubuntu either.

I am using Schedules Direct for EPG data. So far, the only channels
that have names are the digital ones and they got their names when
scanning, not through the EPG.

As far as channel browsing goes, it seems a waste to have the up/down
arrows do the same thing as the ch+/ch- buttons. I thought it'd be nice
to have the option of both types of navigation. The arrows show the
description and expect OK/Enter to change to it; ch+/ch- would change
channels instantly.

As for channel browsing, have any of you here seen how Dscaler (Windows
only I think) does it? It brings up a screen with about 25 thumbnails
of all the channels. You can navigate from thumb to thumb and select it
to go full screen. I don't suppose Myth has anything like that?

You can use the icon downloader built into mythtv-setup. Channel names
would come from your data source. You haven't said where you got your
channel data, so I can't help you further with that.

Not currently implemented as far as I'm aware.

Install msttcorefonts package and your text will be much happier. Not
sure what distribution you're using so I can't point you to the package
specifically.

You think you want to do that, but you really don't. Leave it on
browsing channels and only switching to the channel when you see
something you really want to watch. You will be much happier with LiveTV
this way. You will be much happier with MythTV when you get yourself out
of the habit of watching LiveTV at all. (Hint... whenever you are
watching LiveTV right now, schedule the program to record so you don't
have to catch it on LiveTV next time. Do this long enough and you'll
never watch LiveTV again. I promise.)

Apologies if this msg is f'ed up. Trying a new mail client and not sure
how this will send to the list.
