I used to have that same problem with my Nova-T 500, but I found that if 
I enabled the "open device on-demand" option in MythTV (I can't remember 
where it is at the moment... sorry) that fixed those problems. I'm sure 
there's a reason that option is off by default, but I don't know what it 
is :-)
