[mythtv-users] Volume Too Low Problem

First the summary of my problem:

Mpg2s played with the internal mythtv player at maximum volume are too
low, while vlc can play the same files with proper volume.

Now the details.

The hardware is a Mac Mini running Ubuntu Gutsy. The audio is coming
from the analog headphone jack and going to an input on a TV. The only
control that does anything in alsamixer is "front". Master/PCM do
nothing, so the mythtv setup option for internal volume control does
nothing. Unless I have missed something there is nothing I can do from
mythtv to change the volume.

I keep the alsamixer front control at 100%.

To get sufficient volume on the TV from mythtv , I have to crank the TV
volume control up very high, which is a real problem when I switch sources.

Vlc also has an internal volume control, but this one does not shadow
any of the alsamixer controls. At mid setting it puts out about as much
volume as mythtv, but at high setting its comparable to the other TV inputs.

So how can I get the mythtv internal player to put out higher volume?
