Actually, a lot of people *do* mount their MythTV shares this way.   
Sometimes the extra speed is worth the risk, especially when you're  
dealing with something non-critical like TV.  I don't personally run  
mine this way, but the last time NFS came up several people mentioned  
they did.

The risk is probably not terribly high if you're using reliable  
machines on a fully switched network.
