Ok, I've got *no* idea what fixed this, but between me checking this,
then trying the dvd issue again below, I can now play video..

Guess what - this works too now.. The above still appears in the log,
but I've got region 2 dvd playback, back.

This issue appear to have something to do with the dvd menus on the
handful of region 1 dvd's i've just tried. when I hit esc after
writing my initial email, I noted that the dvd actually appeared to of
played, even though the menu was still on screen. If I play the dvd
from the bookmark I created, it works fine... is there anyway to
ignore the menu, and just play the first / largest title?
