I found out the problem. I celebrated the install of 0.21 by buying an
additional 750GB drive and adding it to my spiffy new storage group. I
had all the directories in that tree as owned by mythtv.mythtv, but
mytharchive needs its tree as writable by the user running the front end.

Since mytharchive couldn't create its temporary files, it didn't update
the amount of DVD space used/left, so there was no indication on the
screen that anything was changing as I added/deleted files I would have
expected some kind of error message if it couldn't write files, but
there was none, not even in the log file. Once I figured it out, I set
that dir as 777 and then everything worked.

Is that worth reporting as a bug?

I'll take exception to this. The MythArchive page merely states "Choose
what files to burn to DVD.", with no clues how this completely new
interface works. If there's other documentation on the subject, I would
love to see it.
