As far as I know, the database isn't hard-coded anywhere. You should  
be able to duplicate your current database as a new name, then change  
the database name in your settings files before you run setup, but  
making a backup is essentially the same thing. Instead of making the  
new name the backup you're leaving the old name as the backup and  
using a new name to run with. It would confuse many users if the  
database might be named something other than mythconverg and they  
didn't name it something else purposefully.

Don't forget.. if you change the database name, you have to change it  
for not only the MythTV backend/frontend but also for MythWeb and that  
would quickly get unwieldy.
