The settings are all stored on the MySQL server (generally the master
backend). Changing the unique identifier should have been all you needed.
Try zapping the mysql.txt, and all the theme and osd caches from
~/.mythtv, and then launching mythfrontend from the terminal
cd /your/path/to/MythFrontend.app/Contents/MacOS/
./mythfrontend
Then you should be able to see a log of what's going on.
