I had a similar problem a couple of months ago.  I only showed up while 
playing a dvd.  The would allow for a situation where I would not touch 
the remote for 2 hrs.

I solved the problem by
dpmsEnabled:    False
#dpmsEnabled:   True

in ~/.xscreensaver
