Since I'm running the script on the same machine as  I'm trying to turn
off the display of I didn't think that the xhost access would be a
problem. I tried it anyway and as expected it made no difference :-(

Next experiment was to try SUID'ing the script as the MythTV user to see
if that helped - still no go...

So to recap, the script is OK from an xterm or from a telnet session but
not when run from irexec.
