William, we have a very similar setup :)
i've got the P5E-VM HDMI and it will be connected through my Denon 3808 AVR
i'm currently running MythBuntu 8.04, but have not upgraded to the
latest Intel drivers. HDMI video out to my monitor seems to work fine
as long as i'm not playing a high 'resolution' video. recordings that
i attempt to play from my HDHR that aren't HD play back fine.
anything HD gives me a blank screen. even with mplayer.
i have been able to play back HD recordings on my MacBookPro if i copy
the files over. so hopefully the latest and greatest Intel driver
will fix the video issue for me.
i was planning on just running the audio to the AVR through the spdif
out on the MoBo. but if the newer ALSA drivers (eventually) allow
audio over HDMI, all the better.
