The first thing in the documentation says, "To use this feature you  
must first enable it in Settings>General>General" so I recommend you  
do that.

telnetd is a telnet server which has nothing to do with controlling  
the mythtv frontend and you should probably get rid of it since it's a  
potential security risk.
