[mythtv-users] nVidia 9600GT and XvMC - there or not?

I have just redone my Myth box and have gone with an nVidia 9600GT
card (to replace the ATI HD3850 that I simply could not get to work
with TV out). It outputs over HDMI and was almost plug and play
compared to my previous X fun with a FX5600 (modeline hell...) and the
failure to conifg TV out on the ATI HD3850 I initially bought.

I have read lots about the lack of XvMC support in the 8xxx series,
but someone (anyone?) confirm whether or not XvMC support should be in
the 9xxx series? I am guessing not, since I can't get it to work! XvMC
is there in xorg (shows up in the Xorg.0.log, but it simply won't work
in myth or in a command-line specified mplayer session. I am finding
that 20 mins into a show, I am getting choppiness and can't figure out
why. I am failing miserably to play H.264 stuff in MythVideo, despite
hacking my way through oodles of mplayer switches.

If no XvMC, then grrrrr. Bloody nVidia and ATI. This box should rock
(HW RAID5 SATA, dual-core, oodles of ram, and a very current video
card) and it blows because of their closed source drivers and lack of
support for things like XvMC and Linux in general.

So, XvMC... there or not in the 9xxx series? I have hunted on the
nVidia site, Phoronix and Google in general and can't find
confirmation. Is the card too new? I could not find a 7xxx series PCI
Express with HDMI out, so sprang for the 9600 (skipping the
problematic 8xxx series) thinking it was a good thing, now its a
waste...
