Well, that is interesting. My programs are ATSC so that explains why
you get sound and I don't.
This could relate to a problem I had once. I have two decoders on two
spdif outputs. At one time I had ascound.conf in the system and only
one of the decoders would produce sound. Removing asound.conf and using
ALSA:spdif as the output solved the problem and now both decoders play.
So, at least in that case, there was something that the mythtv box did
that one decoder could deal with and the newer fancier one could not decode.
I wonder if there is a specification violation that some codecs tolerate
and others do not.
So, back to the question at hand. We have two issues. 1) Sound vs no
sound and 2) Deals with the redirection vs, can't deal with redirection.
Turns out that the players that can deal with redirection can't play
sound and the ones that can play sound can't deal with the redirection.
Bummer.
One might wonder if these problems are related but they are not as VLC
cannot play sound on the .mpg file I downloaded. Both MP and WinAmp can
play sound on that file.
So, all we need is a program that can stream and play the sound in the
files that deals with the redirection.
Anyone know of other stream video players?
By the way, WinAmp looks significantly better than VLC in playing my
test file. It looks really good, but it won't stream...
