[mythtv-users] Hardware acceleration - Google Summer of Code Project

I read about this on slashdot. Here is the developers site:
http://www.bitblit.org/gsoc/g3dvl/. On slashdot some were suggesting that
this would allow hardware acceleration for h264, AVC, etc. But the
developers site says that initially it will just allow XvMC with opensource
drivers. Does anybody know more about this? Will this just help us get XvMC
acceleration of MPEG-2 with opensource drivers, or is it going to allow
acceleration of the other codecs?
