I suspect it is, yes.
Build it with a different prefix, export LD_LIBRARY_PATH with the lib dir of
the new install first, and you should be able to run it from
/some/other/install/location/bin
Also, as you say, use different databases. (I think the same mysql user
should be ok, although you might want to add some seperation here too, so
that if you point it at the wrong place accidentally it doesn't break a
working myth.)
