As I understand it, ALSA decodes, processes (resampling as needed), then 
encodes.  I don't see how this could be called "bit perfect".

I too am interested in the specifics of getting analog and spdif at the 
same time.  Nothing I tried worked on my ASUS M3A.  Is what you did 
specific to that MB?
