Perhaps nvidia-settings can help.  You can set overscan wtih some 
monitors and make the picture area smaller on the screen, for example. 
Perhaps that is what you need.  I am not at my myth box so can't check. 
  I see that "nvidia-settings --query all" should list what it can do.
