you could try
mythtranscode --mpeg2 --buildindex --showprogress --infile <filepath>

Alternately, you could dump the com skips to a cutlist (during
playbacke "e", then "z"), then try mythtranscode -m -l (mpeg2
lossless, honor cut list) to permanently remove the commercials.  Just
remember you have to use the -c -s options to specify your recording
when you use -l.
