2GB of Ram is right.

Do NOT even think of going without a Core2 Duo CPU (or AMD equivalent). 
The difference is noticeable.

And the Intel chipsets run cooler than the AMD for the same processing 
power. But figuring out which is equal to what *is* a pain..

If you go for an Intel cpu, you cannot beat the Intel motherboards...and 
they have a profusion of styles, including boards with builtin 
wifi..which just might save some grief and hardware steps and wiring if 
this is to be a combined backend/frontend.
