I searched the archives and found that Preserve This Episode will not  
auto-expire the program if you have a Max Number of Recordings rule  
that says to auto-expire when the limit is reached in order to record  
a new episode. For example, let's say you have a rule to record a  
maximum of 5 episodes of iCarly and set it to auto-expire the oldest  
one when a new one comes on to record, but you REALLY love the one  
where Spencer makes a butter sculpture and want to watch it over and  
over again. You can Preserve This Episode and it won't auto-expire due  
to the max recordings rule.
