Your ALSA mixer settings are incorrect for your card.  You need to 
change some of the toggle switches (i.e. the ones where someone who 
doesn't understand what their doing posts a message saying something 
like, "For some stupid reason, I had to set the volume of <some digital 
thing> to zero for digital to work...")  These are usually 2- or 3- or 
4-state switches that look like volume controls, but only have 0/100 or 
0/50/100 or 0/33/66/100 "volumes".
