Ran this against /dev/hda and /dev/dvd with the following results:

[root at MediaL dev]# hdparm /dev/hda
/dev/hda:
 multcount    = 16 (on)
 IO_support   =  1 (32-bit)
 unmaskirq    =  1 (on)
 using_dma    =  1 (on)
 keepsettings =  0 (off)
 readonly     =  0 (off)
 readahead    = 256 (on)
 geometry     = 19857/16/63, sectors = 20015856, start = 0

[root at MediaL dev]# hdparm /dev/dvd
/dev/dvd:
 IO_support   =  1 (32-bit)
 unmaskirq    =  1 (on)
 using_dma    =  1 (on)
 keepsettings =  0 (off)
 readonly     =  0 (off)
 readahead    = 256 (on)
 HDIO_GETGEO failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device

Damn Damn Damn!
Any other ideas?
