[mythtv-users] Audio or Video, not Both

Follow-up:

I worked a while this afternoon and now have the following... I connected
my ShuttlePC to the Sony TV using HDMI, then the audio via standard
headphone jack to my Sony Home Theater's RCA Input. This covers audio, but
not the way I would like (remember, I could be carrying Optical to the Home
Theater). With my temporarily spare Optical cable, I connected the TV Out
to the Home Theater (it has both Optical and RCA TV Inputs accepting signals
at the same time).

So, now I have my TV providing Optical audio to the stereo and my MythTV
providing standard L/R audio to the stereo. In finding this solution, I
noticed that my Optical output on my ShuttlePC does not appear to be
producing any red light like the TV's Optical output. I have enabled High
Definition Audio in my BIOS, and checked the two boxes in the MythTV
Settings-Setup-General to "Allow DTS/AC3 passthrough to SPDIF". As one
responder already wrote, ALSA does not yet provide support for carrying
audio over HDMI. It appears that ALSA shouldn't have any problems with
Optical output with these options even included when ALSA is the selected
audio output device. Yes, I did check to make sure that my SPDIF jack was
actually connected to the MB inside the case and it appears to be fine.

Is there something I'm missing in the BIOS or MythTV Settings that would be
keeping my SPDIF jack from producing signal (and thus a little red light)?

Thanks,
     Reid
